This would add great value to the product but the functionality would have to be exercised with care since some bulk search/replace functions can have unintended consequences. We will look at how we can provide more capabilities in this regard; possibly in a phased approach.

I agree that bulk find/replace functionality has to be used with care and the implementation needs to be thought through. Ideally the feature needs to have an option to work in a similar manner to the feature in Word i.e. there is an option to step through matches one by one and decide whether to replace or not in addition to an option to just do all the replaces without having to review. (It would be worth having a feature that displayed the total number of matches and the total number of requirements impacted that required confirmation before a "bulk replace" operation could be confirmed. It would also be useful to be able to limit the find and replace to a specific list of projects, requirement type or just to requirements currently in the requirements grid.

I wrote a VB utility using regular expressions and the CaliberRM SDK that provided such functionality as a learning exercise, but unfortunately, I lost the source code when my laptop was rebuilt - I was sure my source code was safely in Starteam, but I was wrong. Rookie mistake.

As a further enhancement to this idea it would be really useful to be able to define a UDA which has the same type as a requirement description i.e. a separate field that can accept formated text, spell checks has auto links to glossaries, can have hyperlinks, images imbended etc.

We are looking at ways to improve the filter experience. There seems to be a need for three types of filters:

    1. Individual filters.
    2. Project filters.
    3. Global filters.

Global filters would need to have context to the project that you are in and the goal should be to create standard filters that can be reused across projects to help promote consistency in both processes and resulting work products.
