How can we improve Silk Performer?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. column mode during a loadtest

It will be nice to sort the user during a loadtest with a column mode. I want to look for user who have the most error or I want to re-sort to look for the user who have the most transactions.

  2. Introduce support for RDP protocol

It would be good to have Silk Performer introduce support to RDP protocol.

  3. restart users in loadtest

During a load test it can occur that user fail and stop running (halted state). Currently there is no way to restart the user if it fails.
This means that you wont reach your pre-defined load. The only way to get your load is to restart the test run.

Being able to restart users during a test run will result in a valid test instead of stopping and starting a new test run.

It would be very usefull to view the coordinates (X/Y and Size) on the citrix screen inside the TrueLog Explorer.

  5. It would be nice to be able to customize the cross load test reports.

Woud like to be able to include/exclude certain things from the report. Like custom Timers, Page Timers etc.

  6. Show the line numbers in the editor window

Line numbers to the left of the source code would be very handy.

Almost all IDE have the ability to show the line numbers on one side or the other. Even the UNIX editor vi has the ability to display line numbers. Silk Test also shows line numbers within its editor for its scripts.

This is a duplicate of the following Feature Request that was disabled. What is the point of user voice, if Micro Focus disables feature requests and does not allow customers to provide feedback for the features they want?

  9. Specify Timer names for Browser Driven Functions

Within the Browser Driven Load Testing feature, Silk Performer will record timer names for the likes of BrowserClick etc, based on the content of the XPath locator string of an element.

It would be good to have a feature within Silk Performer that would allow you to manually specify the named assign to a function during record, whether it be recording at the Protocol level or via the Browser Driven approach

  11. PCOIC Protocol

A current need we are seeing is to SilkPerformer support the PCOIC protocol. This protocol governs the connectivity of VMWARE infrastructure products such as VDI solutions. We need a way to test this infrastructure such as logging into a VMs and putting load on VMs by using Microsoft Products such as IE and Office (Outlook, IM Messenger) and even Eclipse.

  12. allow older versions in license

Performer used to have "allow older version" option built into the new license - this meant you could upgrade and half the team could continue to use the old version to complete testing while new projects were started on the newer version.

Think it was removed when the different VUs (Web, Standard,Premium) were added.

    Please bring this feature back!

At the minute you get 90 days after upgrading to continue to use the old version - you are supposed to remove the old license after this time - this is impossible to remember.
It would be much easier it the…

  14. Feature to Restart Transaction

Currently within Silk Performer, there is an option to exit a transaction if a specific error occurs, for example with the use of an event handle:

    if GetErrorCode(GetLastError()) = 71 then
    RaiseError(0, "Verification Error Transaction Exit", SEVERITY_TRANS_EXIT );

It would be beneficial, if there was functionality within Silk Performer that would allow the restarting of a transaction

  16. Maintaining SP test results in SilkCentral over the long duration.

Maintaining SilkPerformer test results in SilkCentral over the long duration.
To generate Silk Performer like report you need to know lots of load test specific parameters like TestDefExecID_pk_fk id. It should be easier to comparing results across multiple execution. When using the Repository it’s really easy, a LoadTest id gets generated; but when we store results in SilkCentral the load test id is zero.

  17. Command Line option allowing to stop a load test run

Currently It is allowing to start or abort a load test run through command line.

It will be nice, if we could even stop / kill currently active load test.

  18. Ability to run scripts sequentially, one after the other.

I wanted to run a single user test, meaning at any given time only 1 user should be there in the system, with about 20 scripts for an application. There wasn't any easy way to do this as I had to use the same logic (project attributes) at 20 different locations. Time consuming really. An option to execute scripts one after the other would help a great deal.

  19. Browser Driven scripts need to raise errors for http4xx and 5xx responses.

By default, a browser driven script does not raise an error for an action that results in a http4xx or 5xx error unless the script explicitly verifies some DOM information on the page that might indicate that there was an error. In many pages one might not see an effect from the DOM layer that an error has happened. If there was a 404 error on a missing gif that is used for on screen formatting (blank.gif) one wouldn't really see it. Sometimes a javascript request for a page may return a 400 or a 500 error as well. The…

  20. Implement GIT source control

Version control is an invaluable tool not only for developers but also for performance testers.
Using version control helps to make occasionally mistakes unhappen.
it also is a basis for a professional collaboration within in a testing team.

We are planning to run loadtest out of SCTM using GIT as source control.
Unfortunately the Microfocus tools do not support a consistent tool chain. In opposite to SCTM Silkperformer’s source control integration does not provide support for contemporary version control solutions.
