Silk Test Feature Request

  1. Hide Identify Object tool when Start Identify button is clicked

This one has been challenging for awhile. Would be nice if there was an option to hide the Identify Object tool once the Start Identify button is clicked.

    Currently;

Using Silktest Workbench click the Identify Object button.
Select an application (such as iexplore.exe).
    The Identify Object tool opens.
    Set Selection Mode: Click
Now click the Start Identify button.
Notice the Identify Object window is still front focus. It's basically in the way and the user has to manually move the window. The minimize button on the Identify Object window is disabled so user can not minimize the window to get…

  2. Request for Enhanced Object Map functionality

Due to the large number of controls in my application under test; it was necessary to split the Object Map into smaller sections, as it became difficult to locate controls. However when I record actions against new controls; the new object is always inserted into the same Object Map, which is not usually where I want it to reside. I would like to see the current behavior enhanced to allow me to choose which Object Map I want to use in this scenario. This would make it much easier to maintain my maps, and save me the effort of copying…

  3. .NET Script References within a Script (SilkTest Workbench 17.0)

.NET Script References within a Script (SilkTest Workbench 17.0).
It would rather be easier to reference other scripts within scripts than using the property dialog.

  4. Split the Setup into smaller pieces

Today, the Setup is 958 MB in size. This probably includes everything from Silk Classic over Silk .NET through Silk4J. I only need a small part of that (Silk4J in my case).

Would it be possible to provide the individual parts as separate downloads? I guess it rarely happens that anyone uses all three types in parallel.

  5. Silk Test Workbench: Audit Trail when assets are created, modified, or deleted

When there are many user (script writer and especially full access) I think it's important to have audit trail to let admin know someone has created, modified, or deleted script or result.

  6. Result with filter option

    Select filter with
    1) success
    2) fail
    3) warning
so that you don't have to look through the whole result.

  7. Allow identifiers longer than 30 characters

    SIlktest 14.0.1. Open Agent:
In /Options/Recorder/Browser, the "Maximum Attribute Value Length" can be set much higher than the default of 20. For example, 120.

So, if I record the following(see below), it will return the entire attribute
    [-] DomTextField ComMrvProvisionCsmodelOsEservi
    [ ] locator "INPUT[@id='com.xyz.provision.csmodel.os.eservice.CustomerModel.customerName2']".

But as you can see the identifier gets truncated at 30 characters.
Per MicroFocus Support, this cannot be changed.
It would be nice to have this be a configurable value as well.

  8. Provide a GetColumnName method for ActiveData class

Currently if a user checks the "use first row as a header" checkbox for an activedata asset then there is no way to find out column names within a .Net script. It would be useful to have a GetColumnName method where the user could pass in the column number and have the column name returned.

  9. When pressing "ctrl+->" (control and right arrow) against the following two lines of code: [ ] string sCFG_QaAutomationDirectory = "\\Dtc

When pressing "ctrl+->" (control and right arrow) against the following two lines of code:

        [ ] string sCFG_QaAutomationDirectory = "\\Dtc230042ba890a\view\svizzini1_view_banking\"

    [ ] //this is a comment.

The user would expect the SilkTest Classic IDE to stop at the end of the last string (svizzini1viewbanking") on the first line, however it does not, SilkTest continues on to the next line to the first character (t) of this.

In Eclipse 3.7 and notepad, pressing “ctrl+-> stops at the end of the line after the very last character "

Therefore it would be a good idea if the Silk Test Classic…

  10. SilkTest Workbench: Allow Multi-Delete of Object Map Items

In the current release of SilkTest(14); it is not possible to select and delete multiple items within Object Map, simultaneously. Each item has to first be selected, before clicking the Edit button; and then delete the item via the right-click context menu. This can be tedious when you have a lot of unneeded items in the Object Map; so please consider allowing multiple item selections within Object Maps.

  11. Definitions on right clicking function names

Can we have the ability to navigate through code so when you right click a function name or variable the code jumps to variable declaration or function definition. And maybe also a way to get back, like we had in test partner.

  12. Provide more information with a KeyNotFoundException error message

Currently the error message states 'The given key was not present in the dictionary'. It would be useful for the error message to name the key and the error line.

  13. Record "VerifyProperties" for OpenAgent similar to Classic Agent

Please implement a Record-VerifyProperties function in the OpenAgent similar to ClassicAgent. Meaning that you can record properties of all child objects of the object that is under the mouse cursor rather than just that object.

  15. Silktest Classic and Open Agent: F12 Go to Definition Enhancement

    Hello,
I suggest to enhance the functionality of the F12 'Go to Definition' so that the script writer or tester can go back to the file with the locators even if there are compile issues. When there are a lot of people working on one project it is not uncommon for these issues to happen.

Note that currently when doing F12, the whole project compiles before the user can search for the definition. It is hard to troubleshoot if there are multiple compile issues.

  16. Silk Classic and Open Agent: Enhanced Debug Capabilities

It would be nice if Silk's Classic and OpenAgent had enhanced debug abilities like the ones below:
    1) Drag and drop the debug button during debug mode //the script writer can jump from one line of code to another easily and the objects stay instantiated
    2)Edit code during debug runtime
3)A window with the list of variables and their values during runtime. //this way we can monitor the values without having to add print statements everywhere.

  18. SilkTest Workbench: Enhance Results Configuration Options

When executing Visual Tests or .Net scripts in the Workbench; the following general options are available for configuring how Results are generated:

Save results with a new run number.
Append Results to current run number.
Overwrite existing run number with new Results.
    Do not save this Result.

As our Visual Tests are executed every night, we do not really need to save every single result; but they are obviously useful for debugging purposes, in the event that a test does fail.

It would therefore be useful if some additional options were available; that allowed user to specify the number of…

  19. Active Data File Mapping

The mapping of the Active Data File is currently hard coded path in the visual scripts.

Could Silk be enhanced to map active data as an external parameter?

When testing a Visual Script it would be great to point to a different location than the current Visual Script is pointing.
