Silk Test Feature Request

  1. Be able to call your own function when error happens

    In Test Partner you could have your own function get called when an error happens. Like this
    Dim oe As TOnError
    Set oe = OnError("ScriptErrorHandling.ErrorFunction")

    There really isn't a way of doing this in the new Silk Test 13.5 (with .net) the only option is to do a Try catch over your full script which is not reasonable. The funny thing is, the Visual Test has an option to put in an On error and to call an Asset or another Visual Test.
    Even the older Silk Test had a Do except which could be doable but not very practical. …

  2. Qlikview application dashboard graphs not recognized

    As per incident #2615669, we are not able to test the classes for dashboard graphs in Qlikview application. Recognize individual objects and get properties like text content to validate, would be a great improvement.

  3. WOULD BE NICE: If pln files can call functions, that would be great especially since doing so results in 0 errors

  4. Silk Test should provide support for Win8 Metro Applications

    Currently SilkTest is supporting Win8. But Win8 Metro Applications can't be tested with the current release. So it would be great if Silk Test could support the tests of Win8 Metro Style applications / Windows Store applications in the near future.

  6. Add a method or an option to handle menus by menu item text like TestPartner where the full path of the menu item as it appears on the menu

    Add a method or an option to handle menus by menu item text like TestPartner where the full path of the menu item as it appears on the menu is specified as input.

    Ex:
    Window TestWindow;
    TestWindow.MenuSelect("View~Toolbars~File");

    Behavior:

    This should walk the Window’s menu and select each menu item specified in the menu text. This should work across all types of windows including Win32, FormsWindow, and even Infragistics Menus.

    Justification:

    1. We currently have over 14,000 TestPartner Test Cases written this way.

    2. Silk’s current mechanisms for handling menus do not provide a fool proof method for performing menu selects.…

  7. Provide mouse wheel interaction support similar to Click()

    Similar to Click(), there should be a function in order to directly invoke the mouse wheel in any window. For example, MoveMouseWheel(+/- number of lines). This would be helpful for zooming when testing win32 apps or when scrollbars are not used.

  8. Several Code Debug improvement ideas

    It would be nice if debugging could be improved with the following features.
    1) the ability to drag and drop the play cursor so code can be jumped or rerun
    2) the ability to edit code during runtime
    3) the addition of an immediate window so variables values can be changed during runtime
    4) the addition of a watch window which allows the drag and drop of variables and entire expressions for review
    5) the ability to navigate through code more easily by being to jump to function definitions by right clicking function names and return to previous line etc..

  9. TestPartner Shared module does not exist in SilkTest 13.5

    TestPartner Shared module does not exist in SilkTest 13.5
    Very useful to include modules for all test scripts without adding them manually one by one using Add .NET Script Reference.

  10. GenerateDecl function equivalent for the Open Agent

    The Classic Agent provides a function called GenerateDecl which returns the declaration for a window.

    This request is to implement an equivalent function for the Open Agent.

  11. Provide a native function to get text from a dynaically generated AJAX table

    Currently when an AJAX table is dynamically generated each cell has the same set of identifiers. As long as you know what text you want to verify, you can navigate around the table by columns and rows and use text recognition to compare the contents of each cell. Can this be compacted into a native call e.g.

    getDynamicCellText(x,y)

  12. Change Playback Settings in VB.NET Script

    SilkTest should be able to change the playback settings in vb.net scripts (e.g. 'Save all information', 'Screen Capture' etc.).

  13. Docked FormsWindow do not get their own "With block". They should!

    SilkTest Recorder outputs a new "With / End With" block for each Window, FormsWindow or Dialog it encounters. This a great way to separate the chunk of code. Makes it easy to read the test script.

    But it won't if the FormsWindow is docked inside another FormsWindow.

    For example, this is what gets recorded right now if I click two buttons, first one inside the main FormsWindow and a second one inside a docked FormsWindow:

    With _desktop.FormsWindow("@caption='dcsc03b*")
    .PushToolItem("@automationId='tbDsc03_fctDetails'").Select()
    .PushToolItem("@automationId='tbglst05_fctDetails'").Select()
    End With

    It would be much easier to read, maintain and debug if each FormsWindow had separate "With / End With"…

  14. Allow the ability to natively identify JRadioButtons inside a JTableCell

    Currently the only way to action a JRadioButton inside a JTableCell is to use the co-ordinates parameter of ClickCell().

  15. Abitlity to handle non-printable characters in Visual Tests

    In the expression editor of Visual Tests there should be the ability to handle non-printable characters. For example to Find or Replace characters like Tabs or CarriageReturns in local variables. Those characters are very often relevant in captured text sequences. And must be identified or eliminated in those cases.

  16. Workbench Abort Test Hotkeys(ALT + F12)

    The Workbench documentation states that the replay hotkeys <ALT + F12> '.. should stop the playback while the SilkTest Workbench is minimised'.

    However when replaying a Driver Script or Visual Test that calls a number of child Tests; the Hotkeys will only terminate the currently executing script, and will not affect the Driver. Consequently it will continue to execute any subsequent tests. To abort the entire run the keys have to be pressed multiple times, depending on the number of scripts called.

    It would be preferable if the Hotkeys aborted both the executing test and driver script; or perhaps Microfocus…

  17. SilkTest Workbench: Convert Visual Test to .Net Script

    SilkTest workbench - request for functionality to support the conversion of Visual Tests to .Net Scripts.

    The main advantage of Visual Test approach is that it is simple and intuitive for novice QA engineers to get to grips with, especially if these are non-technical and have limited scripting experience.

    But due to the limitations and some missing functionality within the Visual Test framework; it would be beneficial if Visual Tests could be converted into .Net Scripts, for further modification and enhancement by more experienced QA engineers.

  18. Hide Identify Object tool when Start Identify button is clicked

    This one has been challenging for awhile. Would be nice if there was an option to hide the Identify Object tool once the Start Identify button is clicked.

    Currently;

    Using Silktest Workbench click the Identify Object button.
    Select an application (such as iexplore.exe).
    The Identify Object tool opens.
    Set Selection Mode: Click
    Now click the Start Identify button.
    Notice the Identify Object window is still front focus. It's basically in the way and the user has to manually move the window. The minimize button on the Identify Object window is disabled so user can not minimize the window to get…

  19. Automatic update of locator when selecting another attribute

    See item 8 of the 'Recording Locators Using the Locator Spy' help topic. It states that

    'To replace the locator that you recorded, select the locator that you want to use in the Locator Details table. The new locator displays in the Selected Locator text box. '

    This implies that selecting a different attribute will automatically update the highlighted locator - this does not happen as it actually needs to be changed manually.

    Wells-Fargo are requesting that this is made an automatic change as implied by the help file.

  20. From Support Case 2584528

    The customer would like to see support introduced for VB and ActiveX Form controls embedded in MS Excel.

    Currently it is challenging to automate this scenario with SilkTest; as the objects are merely recognised as the generic 'Control' class through the Open Agent, indicating that they are not identified as standard control types.

    Consequently low level events such as coordinated clicks and typekeys are recorded against them; which is not ideal and can potentially cause errors when replayed on different operating systems.

    At present the best option available to handle these; is to try class-mappping them to standard control types.
