Silk Test Feature Request

  1. Workbench: Enhance Functionality when Inserting Control from AUT.

When using 'Insert > Control From > Application under Test' in Workbench Visual Test; after choosing the control from the application, the user is prompted to select the method to be used with the object.

I would like to see this enhanced with wizard-type functionality; that also prompts the user for any other parameters or keys required for the chosen method to work.

  2. Script modules to be referred to by id

When you change a script name, you have to then go into every script which references the old script name and update the name. The scripts should be handled on an ID base so the name can be maintained at will.

  4. Definitions on right clicking function names

Can we have the ability to navigate through code so when you right click a function name or variable the code jumps to variable declaration or function definition. And maybe also a way to get back, like we had in test partner.

  5. SilkTest Workbench: Enhanced 'Condition Designer' options

Most of our automation scripts are created as Visual Tests; and for a number of reasons do not like to use Application Configurations and Object Maps in our projects.

With this type of approach however; it is difficult to create the type of decision logic that we need, because we cannot enter full XPath queries in the Value field of the condition designer.

For example; if I wanted to test that a dialog button exists on screen, and run a child test if this returns True; I would like to enter the following Xpath for Value1 in the Condition Designer:

  6. Be able to call your own function when error happens

In Test Partner you could have your own function get called when an error happens. Like this
    Dim oe As TOnError

    Set oe = OnError("ScriptErrorHandling.ErrorFunction")

There really isn't a way of doing this in the new Silk Test 13.5 (with .net) the only option is to do a Try catch over your full script which is not reasonable. The funny thing is, the Visual Test has an option to put in an On error and to call an Asset or another Visual Test.
Even the older Silk Test had a Do except which could be doable but not very practical. …

  7. store more object attribute into the object repository

If the object attribute has some minor change, no need to update the object repository or change the code.

  8. OpenAgent neeeds to support GetSubItemCount() and GetSubItems()

Currently in SilkTest 13.5 openagent does not support methods few methods that classic agent supports. The methods are GetSubItemCount() and GetSubItems(). It would be great if we get those in future

  9. 4Test: ParseDateFormat should support Time elements

Right now ParseDateFormat only supports date formatted strings, not times. Either it or a different function should support parsing time formats intermixed with date formats.

FormatDateTime wil do the reverse for Dates and Times- it would be nice if all those formats were supported in converting a string into a DATETIME

  10. Need support to Customize Debug Logging

It would be better to have a support for logging messages with differnet levels. Like, 'Info', 'Debug', 'Error', 'Fatal', 'warning' etc..In such a way that, I have all types of messages in my script or functions. But, At times, i wanna suppress warnings or debug messages and want to log only certain messages like, errors or Fatal messages etc.. Then, it should work as such.

  11. Qlikview application dashboard graphs not recognized

As per incident #2615669, we are not able to test the classes for dashboard graphs in Qlikview application. Recognize individual objects and get properties like text content to validate, would be a great improvement.

  12. Silk Test should provide support for Win8 Metro Applications

Currently SilkTest is supporting Win8. But Win8 Metro Applications can't be tested with the current release. So it would be great if Silk Test could support the tests of Win8 Metro Style applications / Windows Store applications in the near future.

  14. Add a method or an option to handle menus by menu item text like TestPartner where the full path of the menu item as it appears on the menu

Add a method or an option to handle menus by menu item text like TestPartner where the full path of the menu item as it appears on the menu is specified as input.

    Ex:

    Window TestWindow;

    TestWindow.MenuSelect("View~Toolbars~File");

    Behavior:

This should walk the Window’s menu and select each menu item specified in the menu text. This should work across all types of windows including Win32, FormsWindow, and even Infragistics Menus.

    Justification:

    1. We currently have over 14,000 TestPartner Test Cases written this way.

    2. Silk’s current mechanisms for handling menus do not provide a fool proof method for performing menu selects. The entire…

  16. TestPartner Shared module does not exist in SilkTest 13.5

TestPartner Shared module does not exist in SilkTest 13.5
Very useful to include modules for all test scripts without adding them manually one by one using Add .NET Script Reference.

  18. Provide mouse wheel interaction support similar to Click()

Similar to Click(), there should be a function in order to directly invoke the mouse wheel in any window. For example, MoveMouseWheel(+/- number of lines). This would be helpful for zooming when testing win32 apps or when scrollbars are not used.

  19. Abitlity to handle non-printable characters in Visual Tests

In the expression editor of Visual Tests there should be the ability to handle non-printable characters. For example to Find or Replace characters like Tabs or CarriageReturns in local variables. Those characters are very often relevant in captured text sequences. And must be identified or eliminated in those cases.

  20. Workbench Abort Test Hotkeys(ALT + F12)

The Workbench documentation states that the replay hotkeys <ALT + F12> '.. should stop the playback while the SilkTest Workbench is minimised'.

However when replaying a Driver Script or Visual Test that calls a number of child Tests; the Hotkeys will only terminate the currently executing script, and will not affect the Driver. Consequently it will continue to execute any subsequent tests. To abort the entire run the keys have to be pressed multiple times, depending on the number of scripts called.

It would be preferable if the Hotkeys aborted both the executing test and driver script; or perhaps Microfocus…
