Silk Test Feature Request

  1. Set a local variable into the Properties "Application Configuration->Config 1->URL" in Silk Workbench

When there is a Silk Workbench project with multiple visual tescases, if their URL changes we must change the URL for each test because it's hardcoded. Would be nice to have a variable for URL that we could extract from an Active Data, for example.

  2. Show subfiles that were created from the Properties pane of a script.

In Silk Test Workbench, I would like to see an option to automatically display tabs for sub-files in scripts without having to open them in from the Properties pane. To clarify, by sub-files, I mean Files that were added by right-clicking in the properties pane and clicking Add File.

  3. Provide a Random function in Visual Test Expression Designer

Please consider providing a Random function that would allow users to generate random values for common input fields such as Zip Code, Contact Number etc; within the Expression Designer when working with Visual Tests. Currently there is no means to accomplish this within Visual Tests; so the random values can only be created and consumed in .Net scripts, or sent back to a calling Visual Test as parameters.

  4. SilkTest Workbench: Provide the Cursor Class

I would like to see SilkTest Workbench introduce the Cursor class; so that we can monitor the state of the cursor for changes state, or know when the cursor enters a specified state.

This class is already available in SilkTest Classic, and provides methods such as Wait() and GetType(); but I would like it introduced in the Workbench client.

  5. include the capability to call visual test from .net script in silk test.

Include the capability to call visual test from .net script in silk test.
By doing this tester can write a code as well as call in visual test scripts into one sequence of execution.

  6. Find/Serach and Sort option in Global/Local variables view while debugging.

Find/Serach and Sort option in Global/Local variables view while debugging. This feature will make the debugging of Silk code more effective and faster.

  7. The properties of result step should include the value of st_LastReturnValue

When using the results file to debug a Visual Test execution, there are often no details returned with regards to the value returned from methods that retrieve information from a control, e.g.:

    • GetMultiText

    • Exists

    • IsFocussed

It would be beneficial if the result step details also included the value of st_LastReturnValue. For example, if a user wanted to check whether an Exists call returned True/False an additional step would be required to log that information to the results.

  9. Ability to use expressions for verification result descriptions in Visual Tests

At the moment it is only possible to use literals for verification result descriptions in Visual Tests. In the verify step you have to define a "pass text" and a "fail text" for the result. It would be very helpful (reducing script code and result lines) if it would be possible to use expressions (like e.g. in result comment steps) to add more individual information to the verify result. To do this at the moment I have to add an additional result comment step to bring these information into the result set.

  10. SilkTest Workbench: Allow Multi-Delete of Object Map Items

In the current release of SilkTest(14); it is not possible to select and delete multiple items within Object Map, simultaneously. Each item has to first be selected, before clicking the Edit button; and then delete the item via the right-click context menu. This can be tedious when you have a lot of unneeded items in the Object Map; so please consider allowing multiple item selections within Object Maps.

  11. Silk Test Workbench - Ability to clean up database by removing unused assets

My application has evolved, many buttons and images which I used to interact with no longer exist.

The Visual Tests which interacted with these objects have now been removed as the tests are no longer relevant.
My customer has the following issue:-

New object map entries have now been created for the evolved application, to replace the buttons and images which no longer exist in my application.

There are now many obsolete entries in the object map which I no longer require.

The existing “Purge Asset Version” feature is not suited to my scenario as I have a single object…

  12. SilkTest Workbench: Enhance Results Details

In previous versions of SilkTest Workbench the 'Command Details' in 'Result - Details' would only contain data when some values were actually entered into a textfield, or some other control.

For other activities such as retrieving properties, such as the number of Items in a ListBox control; the behavior was that the value in the Column Details would remain empty. This was good as it allowed you to quickly scan results and find steps where data was entered into the AUT. Please see the following pdf file:

With SilkTest 14 however; this behavior has been changed…

  13. Silk Test Workbench Options should be able to be pushed to govern all users

The custom options I save within Silk Test Workbech should be able to be pushed to all users that log in.

Currently in Silk test Workbench the options are saved per user, as an Administrator I wish to ensure the settings I apply are pushed to all users to ensure that all users are using the same options as myself.

This functionality would allow me to better manage my users and to ensure continuity throughout recording and playback of tests.

  14. Change behavior when renaming Visual Tests

When you rename a Visual Test after it has been executed; the current behavior of the Workbench, is that any existing Results assets will be orphaned, and are no longer associated with the parent test. I would like this behavior modified in a future release of SilkTest; so that Results are still associated with the Visual Test, even after renaming it.

  15. Verification steps should highlight the control being verified in the Screen Preview

In a Visual Test step the Screen Preview window highlights the control that is being interacted with apart from Verification steps. The Screen Preview window should also highlight the control that is being verified in a particular Visual Test step.

  16. Count all assets in SilkTest Workbench

It is possibly to get the number of versions of a single asset in Workbench by highlighting the script / object and selecting File | Show All Versions. Please extend this so that it will show all versions of a selected asset type in one go e.g. all versions of all Visual Test.

  17. SilkTest Workbench: Enhance Results Configuration Options

When executing Visual Tests or .Net scripts in the Workbench; the following general options are available for configuring how Results are generated:

Save results with a new run number.
Append Results to current run number.
Overwrite existing run number with new Results.
    Do not save this Result.

As our Visual Tests are executed every night, we do not really need to save every single result; but they are obviously useful for debugging purposes, in the event that a test does fail.

It would therefore be useful if some additional options were available; that allowed user to specify the number of…

  18. SilkTest Workbench: Default BaseState Execution Option

When recording Workbench Tests; please provide an option that allows the user to set the default behavior, in relation to BaseState execution. Currently this is enabled by default; and can be disabled by modifying the App Configuration settings in the start step of a Visual Test. However it would be better to have the option to change this behavior while recording.

  19. SilkTest Workbench: Enhanced Verifications from Screen Preview

When Inserting a Verification from Screen Preview in Workbench Visual Tests; the text property of a textfield is not exposed in the Test Logic Designer, even when visible in the screen preview image.

The workaround is to Insert the Verification from the Application under Test. However as it takes significantly longer to add verifications this way; I would like to see this behavior enhanced so that all properties are available for selection, when inseting verifications from Screen Preview.

  20. Improve the warnings when deleting disabled steps in Visual Tests

    a. If someone tries to delete a live step that has child code (e.g. 'using' statements), SilkTest Workbench pops up a warning saying that deleting the step may affect the test.

    b. If the same step is disabled for testing and then the user tries to delete it while the step is disabled, Workbench does not warn them that there may have child code that will be affected by deleting this step.

Regardless of why the step was disabled in the first place, if a warning is generated for situation (a) then a warning should also be generated for situation…
