Caliber Feature Requests

  1. Allow more customized control of requirement major/minor Version

We use requirement versions to determine when re-validation (re-review) of a requirement is necessary. Currently, we can only customize the major/minor version change due to requirement edits on custom attributes - we need this on all attributes. Example: we only want to re-review on updates to rqmt text (standard attribute), safety/derived flags and justifications (custom attributes), and changes that affect traceability up (Trace-From, but not Trace-To). Our review processes would be much more efficient if we could adjust the revision roll (Major/Minor/None) for any attribute - standard or custom.

Caliber 11.5 introduces the ability to allow users to decide if a change should cause a minor or a major version increment. This is a per-project setting.
Control over minor/major is a wide-spread request – but the details vary greatly from customer to customer.
Therefore, we provide a manual means of controlling minor/major as we currently have no plans to introduce a comprehensive and fully customizable workflow engine in Caliber.

  2. Option to view and edit HTML version of requirement

When you enter a requirement Caliber internally stores the content as HTML. However, the markup is currently only accessible via the SDK.

It would be useful if Caliber had an option to view/edit the HTML version of a requirement. This would be particularly useful when viewing content that had been imported or pasted into Caliber from external sources.

In particular we have had issues with document factory outputs where unwanted settings have been silently pasted into Caliber. Currently, these are not even visible through the Caliber front end, but result in formatting issues when the requirement is output via the…

  4. Can the documentation for CaliberRM10.1 Document Factory be updated?

Can we requested that the documentation for CaliberRM10.1 Document Factory be updated to include the syntax for both Document Factory 1 and Docuemnt Factory 2. Currently it is applicable to DF2 but as we can run both versions of Document Factory then the Documentation should reflect this.

  5. Font issues when copying text from different sources

Font type, size and style are not always as they appear in Caliber RM; sometimes
it is not possible to change it (e.g. some bold font will not go away).

This is due to abbreviated HTML characters in this case <B>
CaliberRM cannot deal with this HTML coding.

Issue is due to abbreviated characters <B> <S> etc

  6. Caliber integration to QC documentation to be updated

-The current distributed documentation is in need of updates. As an example, the versions of Quality Center referenced are up to version 9.0. Latest HP release is 11.0. Also, the product is referred to as Mercury Quality Center rather than HP Quality Center. Also, the configuration information is not current for the latest needs of verion 11 of Quality Center.

  7. Traceability tab counter be added to the traceability tab

When a requirement contains one or more reference(s), the user can identify it by the number between round brackets behind the Label “Referenzen”.
It would be helpful when in a similar manner the number of dependencies (German: Abhängigkeiten) are reported behind the Label “Abhängigkeiten”. Can a trace counter number be added to the Traceability tab in Caliber client, the same idea as the counter on References, similar to that which exists presently in the References tab? Can this be applied?

  8. Allow better keyboard navigation for comboboxes

Currently, if you have many items in your list (for example when selecting requirement owner), you can click on the list then type the name, but you can not confirm the selection using space or enter key, you have to switch back to the mouse to confirm the selection.

  10. Ability to export traceability diagrams

The traceability diagram is a particularly useful feature within CaliberRM but an enhancement would be to allow users to export a traceability diagram for use in documentation and other material. Typically, formats would need to include the major picture outputs (jpg, png, gif etc) but some other specialist formats may be required.

Currently, there are ways to export the data in a Traceability Matrix in Caliber. From the Traceability Matrix, go to “File | Print” then choose “Export” to save to xml or choose “Print Preview” to get an HTML version of the matrix that can be saved.

  11. Option to store embedded description objects on the file System.

Always a bad idea to store binary objects in a DB. It is the reason why our DB went from 2g to 32g in 3 years. It makes the DB bloated and hard to manage during backups, upgrades and the like. The objects should be external to the DB so they can be managed separately.

A best practice is to either provide the URL directly to the file in a shared environment like SharePoint or create a Reference vs. including the object as Description content. It is recommended that the file URL be in a shared location vs. being stored on the client machine to ensure maximum collaboration.

Caliber allows you to create multiple traces from the Traceability tab, using the Modify button and then multi-selecting requirements by using the “CTRL” key.

We are also looking at ways to trace items that are results from a filter all at once.
